"Niu to You"

Threshold's Niu to You ("Niu" in Mandarin means "cow.") project works to improve the livelihood of an entire community. Here's how it works:

For about $300 USD, one full-grown niu (pronounced "new") can be purchased. Threshold gives this niu to a family in Linjiang. The niu provides the family with transportation, plowing power, milk, offspring to sell for profit, and (in the end) meat. In return, the family gives Threshold the niu's first calf. Threshold will then give the young calf to another family.

This new family dedicates their niu's first calf to Threshold. Once again, Threshold will present the calf to another family...

...and thus, the blessing perpetuates itself. This project brings hope and improvement into family's lives and, eventually, the whole community's life. During our first presentation of our nius in the summer of 2002, there was a great celebration as a parade of people went to the market place and purchased the cows.

Chickens Too

Chickens are ready to be delivered

How do you get protein to hungry Chinese children living in remote mountainous regions where there is no refrigeration? You give them soy beans, yes, and nius, if you have $300. But, what if you only have $5? You give them 10 chicks and the corn to feed them! For a $5.00 donation TMI can purchase 10 chicks and some feed. Our goal is 15 hens and 2 roosters per family. That will provide 12 eggs per day. Lots of protein for healthy bodies!
