The Paper Cutting Man

He fell from the truck and broke his back on December 18, 1995. Workmen helped carry Wang, Fu to the local hospital, where he remained for months. His legs paralyzed, he returned home to be confined to a bed in his small mountain house for the rest of his life.
His wife left within a few months, abandoning him, his three-year-old son and his elderly father. Left with no means of support, he fell into despair. His father was able to grow a few vegetables to feed them, but the once happy family was now facing serious poverty. The government helped by giving the family RMB 50 (approximately $ 8.00) annually, not even enough to buy fuel for the brutally cold winters, and certainly not enough to feed, clothe and educate his son.
He says that the love of his small son gave him the strength to live. He realized that, although his legs could no longer walk, his hands were still healthy. One day last year he saw a paper cut that he liked very much. The ancient Chinese art intrigued him and he began to experiment with his scissors.
Amazingly, today he has become an accomplished paper cut artist and has sold a collection of his works to market on his behalf. Exquisitely and painstakingly created, each one is a work of art and lovely when framed. His paper art will soon be showcased for sale on our website and are also available for sale at our home office and mission markets.
